windows 10
Currently running 8.1 and quite happy with it, but keep being asked to upgrade for free.

Is it safe/any good/any improvement?

8.1 to 10? Is this the "false Number 9" I keep hearing of?

(Yours, 8.1, scared of upgrading but will do when EVERYTHING backed up.)

What does this have to do with West Ham?

Re: windows 10
Sounds like that was the hard drive failing that was the problem, rather than the operating system, seems unlikely that a change of operating system would need a new hard drive - or that "Microsoft techs" had to "work on it for a month". Changing hard drive and clean install is max 4 hours work.

You sure it weren't one of these Indians who ring up from "Windows department" ?

If you jump from 7 to 10 it's not a great leap as it's fairly similar, albeit with a slightly different interface, but 7 to 8 /8.1 was a huge leap and once you've got used to 8 it might be a pain to go onto 10, but it's definitely much more intuitive if you have a keyboard rather than a touch screen

Windows 10 ruined my old computer that was running 7. Had to have microsoft techs work on it for about a month. had to install a new hard drive, and everything was wiped clean. everything was backed up, but it was also my work computer. I ended up just buying a new laptop which runs 8.1. I don't recommend it.

'and simply deleted the "patch" that keeps reminding me to upgrade.'

So how do I do this? Fucking pain in the arse with their popups. Many thanks in advance.

Re: windows 10
Been using it for a few months now and like it, much better than the 8 or 8.1 crap, had a couple of initial issues but all sorted now.

Been using 10 for the last month or so, having moved straight from 7. It's fine, does the job with a few nice touches.

Re: windows 10
It uploads an awful lot of personal data to Microsoft unless you're quick enough to configure it on the fly whilst installing it - and even then it still sneaks shit off your drive.

My laptop came with Windows 8 pre-installed and that got dumped in favour of Ubuntu before the first day was out. I run Windows 7 in a virtual machine and simply deleted the "patch" that keeps reminding me to upgrade.

Never understood this obsession with Windows or Mac O/S: it verges on Christian vs Muslim for some people..

Re: windows 10
My laptop shipped with 8.1 which I found terrible.

Upgraded to 10 which felt bogged down.

Once I did a complete wipe and clean install I've found it to be brilliant, as stable as OSX which I didn't really want to leave.

Supports 4k really well too.

Re: windows 10
I was using 8.1 with a program called Start8 to give it a similar interface to win 7 and it was great. Now I find in win 10 that if I try to open a movie or photo, it takes ages to come up.

Yes Staffs
7 was fine, actually Xperia was fine. then they counted it all up. Useless wankers with loads of money

Re: windows 10
Had it for a bit but I then had an issue with my laptop and had to factory reset. I have 7 on my laptop and haven't bothered going back to 10.

I also had a problem with not being able to close some programs via Task Manager which got on my tits.

Re: windows 10
I upgraded.
the start button is back more or less as it was, which is kind of nice. But I have 4 error messages that come up everything I start. no idea why and am just living with them.
Otherwise looks the same. Error messages piss me off and would be happy to not have them and not have upgraded.
I was getting used to 8,1 and do not see any improvement.

Re: windows 10
My youngest brother upgraded and massively regretted it. I had to help him switch back to 7. Ball-ache.

Best swerved, I reckon.
